I listened to this as an audiobook. I was honestly surprised at how accessible it was a work of literature and as an audio text.
This text is composed of three of Kant's classic works. The first is “What is Enlightenment” and consists of Kant's prescription for a better society. That prescription is largely that enlightened rulers should let public intellectuals engage in public discussion of public issues. We find here a lot of the themes that Kant is known for.
The second text is the Fundamental Principles of Metaphysics. This one really surprised me because I was able to follow Kant's clear and lucid arguments. Kant's major ideas, including the Categorical Imperative and Kant's arguments about autonomy, are found here.
The third text is “Toward a Lasting Peace,” where Kant argues for a kind of League of Nations and constitutional republicanism. I found this of interesting as a beginning point for thinking about peace and international order.
The translation seemed to be very good, but there was an odd feature where “duty” was translated as “responsibility.”
As a way to obtain an introduction Kant, the audiobook was very good.
