It's been years since I read T. Greenwood. I still highly recommend Nearer the Sky (note to self: reread that). She has the BEST storytelling skills.
I knew this one was going to be a tough one to get through, subject-wise. And it was. It will rip your heart out. BUT! In addition to the main story of a woman saving her child there is this pervasiveness of what life was like before womens' rights (not that it is a finished deal). Honestly, having no choice, no say in your life....shudder. It made me so grateful for all of the women who came before me, who fought the fight (while also raising children and working for a living). I'm so grateful!!
It's also a little survey of Roadside attractions.
Great read.
