When you have to debate with yourself as to whether a character ignored the ongoings in their own life you know the book you are reading is a winner. I expect nothing less when I pick up a T.B. Markinson novel and Kismet is a story I am going to remember. Mind you it instigated an interesting discussion in my own household with my mother and some of the people I have dated (smh).
Now for some of you this story might seem a little familiar as Markinson states in her notes that a very small portion of this story appeared in an anthology in 2018. (Yes, I am one of them that reads the Author's Note - total geek here.) Apparently almost 45,000 words were added, so you need to re-read it. Kismet is that good.
Markinson gives us romance in London at Christmas time. The rain doesn't stop the love, nor does it put a damper on anything else. Markinson gives us heat and some great romantic moments.
I have to say that I am really partial to Allison because of what she does on Christmas Eve. There are not many people who would do that so it is even funner that she says the above quote. I am citing this particular verbiage because I believe this statement wholeheartedly. Yet, I am very similar to Allison in personality so it is kind of funny.
Kismet is a hurt/comfort romance that starts as a one-night stand and luckily for us extends into so much more. Read Kismet and tell me you don't crush on Allison too.
I received an ARC of this book and I am writing a review without prejudice and voluntarily.
