Emily is in love with Thomas, a low class sailor but highly valued by Emily's father, a wealthy businessman with a ship fleet that makes trips particularly to Japan, the country of the rising sun. Because of the obstacles of her family, she decides to run away with her lover to escape the arranged marriage her father has agreed with another high-born English family.
