I read this after watching the first season on Netflix, so I had some familiarity with the subject matter. That being said, the TV show and the graphic novel are quite different beasts - the storylines are re-ordered, the general tone in the graphic novel is significantly darker and some character interactions are changed in major ways.
The basic premise of Locke and Key - that of having magical keys that unlock special abilities/magical things - is a fascinating one and quite a unique take on things. Joe Hill has crafted an intriguing urban fantasy around these ideas, and the graphic novels really work as a great format to give colour to the story. This first master edition collects the first two series into a single volume and they definitely give an interesting introduction to the world of Locke and Key.
Definitely recommended, even for people who have seen the TV show. There is enough stuff which is different here!
