In an effort to read more graphic novels, I decided to pick up a novel that has won many different awards. Overall, I think I like this about as much as other graphic novels that teach Americans about a historical event or person. For reference, earlier this year, I read Kent State: Four Dead in Ohio. I would say that March has more creativity in its art style than Kent State. Also, March being centered on one person, rather than a group of people makes it more focused.
Not knowing much about John Lewis' life before this, I liked how it was displayed here with his life being told in flashbacks helps orient the reader and tell his story. Overall, I believe that this was a good book that really opened my eyes to John Lewis' life, and I can't wait to continue the series. I give it a four out of five.
