While this one isn't my favorite Bower novel, it's still good. The characters are very colorful, even though the plot wanders around a bit. In the main, it was the hero's penchant toward pluralism that bugged me more than anything: “I can lie if I'm lied to and steal from a thief” and so on. I got a number of chuckles out of the dry, tongue-in-cheek humor, from the eager young Easterner woman to the cowboys.

The best part of Bower's books is always the vivid descriptions of the real West, though!

Content: some swearing and drinking
