A stunning prose retelling of the Beowulf legend from award-winning Brian Patten with fabulous artwork by new Children's Laureate Chris Riddell. Jacket foiling and neon pantone print interiors combine for a really fabulous Little Gem. The monster Grendel has awoken and the townspeople are terrified. Even the King has abandoned his great Hall. Hero after hero comes to slay the monster, but no one can outwit Grendel. Only Beowulf has a chance. But when Beowulf finally triumphs, an even greater horror awakens. Grendel's mother, the Hag, wants revenge on the slayer of her son.

The story of Beowulf and Grendal told for children. It's pretty graphic in places, so not for really young ones in my opinion. Though I've loved this story since I was young.
I picked this book up purely because it was illustrated by Chris Riddell - I love his illustrations. It's a really lovely edition, smaller than a standard paperback, interesting colour choices too, with easy to read well spaced font.
