Cute little true and made up stories by the creator of the novel, Drewscape. My favorite is called Frozen. The story starts off with Drewscape as a little boy. He spends an ordinary day going to school, kicking around the soccer ball with his friends in PE, etc. When he gets home he takes off his shoe only to find a squashed roach on his toes. The poor boy stood frozen for what seemed forever as he was too grossed out and frightened to touch the dead bug. The story fast forwards to a grown-up Drewscape who explains his ritual of having to bang his shoes and check for bugs before putting them on. This story resonates with me because I've had the same ritual for years now. Though I've never found a bug in my shoe, when I was a very young child, I once saw a TV show in which a man (a cowboy I think) taught another to check his boots for scorpions. He told his friend that many have died from scorpion bites because people were too lazy to take the time to check their boots. I am a city girl and never had to be wary of scorpions, but after watching that clip, I just am not able to put on my shoes without checking them first :D
