My Heart Is a Chainsaw

DNF @ 29%, ~120 pages

This feels mean to say, but I found absolutely nothing redeemable in this. The main character is irritating and feels a little ~not like other girls~. Her internal monologue and essays are stream-of-consciousness and an absolute mess. The constant slasher references felt a little Ready Player One. I was literally just trying to drag myself through this, without even caring about the underlying ‘mystery' or what was going to happen. I kept wondering, “what is the POINT?” I read through some spoiler reviews and decided that the issues I had were not going to abate. I ALSO found out that a major plot point is apparently that her dad raped her and got her pregnant when she was 11. Feels unnecessary, but also I don't want to read that when it's written by a man. Maybe I'm a hater, idc.

Anyway, reactions to this seem pretty polarized. If you're a huge slasher fan you might like this. I like slashers but wouldn't consider myself an expert. Our MC is basically a walking encyclopedia, though.
