this was not what i expected and it was silly but damn it if i didn't enjoy it!! just what i needed to unwind rn.. the fact that every single kiss got interrupted was kind of a bummer bro but i liked this a lot and will probably pick up the next ones.. the narration style surprised me sometimes, i'm not sure it's for everyone but i didn't mind it that much!
I decided to start reading this book when I saw someone on Twitter describing it as the ultimate slump buster. I thought that sounded like just what I needed!
This book was so fun and funny. I loved the narrator's voice and tone of the book. The alternate history mixed with fantasy was very engaging.
I was also struck with the realization that I didn't know anything about this period of British history. I had never heard of Jane Grey, and while I had heard the name Tudor, I didn't really know what it was.
SpoilerThough, one of my favorite bits was the suggestion that G was really Shakespeare. I noticed that pretty quickly.
I love Gifford Dudley! I genuinely thought that the plot made more sense in the show than in the book but I did like having Edward as a pivotal perspective throughout and I am grateful for Bess character development!
I feel like the political aspect of it all is so close to being meaningful but instead I just spent the whole book thinking about what animal I would like to be!
I thought the narration got a tad lazy near the end, and was being used so frequently for humour it was distracting from genuinely funny characters but Jane and Gifford are a truly believable couple and I did enjoy their development <3
