Joyce Radway was studying hard to pass examinations in order to become a teacher. When her unreasonable sister-in-law demanded that Joyce stay home with the children on the day when several exams were to be completed, Joyce felt she could no longer endure the constant complaints and demands on her time. After arranging for the children to get to school safely, she packed up a few belongings and left dear friends and what had been the only home she'd ever known.
