Pandastic Times looks at the lives of three ordinary creatures-Mr. Coon, Mr. Mole, and Miss Lizzy-who live secretly on Mr. and Mrs. Whistlegood's property in upstate New York and who now have suddenly come into unimaginable freedom, as have animals all over the planet, who have taken over streets and villages and cities as they reassert their ownership of what was always rightfully theirs. Who is this witch-humans think it's a witch-who has reversed the order of life on Earth? The author unravels the mystery bit by bit as Mr. Whistlegood concocts a wild potion with parts of exotic animals to scare away the jungle witch, and his rebellious daughter, Cathrin, embarks on a voyage to the Faraway Jungle to stop her father's well-intentioned but lethal venture. She is accompanied by a superbly intelligent humanoid robot, Ms. Roxy, who has a duplicitous mission of her own. They encounter the perpetrator of the deathly spell deep inside the jungle, and later discover the identity of this mystifying sorcerer when a spellbound Cathrin, on her journey back home, meets an obscure storyteller in England, a land also reclaimed by Jungle People, who is readying to stage his play-an animal tragedy-acted out by a band of rabbits and foxes and a bat, at the world-famous (and presently abandoned) Royal Shakespeare Theatre, where only human tragedies had played before.Readers young and old may recognize the perpetrator of the spell that has upturned the world as human and animal worlds collide in this far-reaching, adventurous parable.
