Ex-FBI profiler Jefferson Winter is in New York helping NYPD Sergeant Maria Fernandez to hunt a serial killer. When he goes in search of breakfast at two in the morning he's drawn into a more complex case. A mysterious woman approaches him with claims that she's the suspect in a double homicide from six years ago and wants his help to clear her name. Teaming up with Fernandez, Winter discovers that the woman was not a suspect. As far as the police were concerned the murders were carried out by a local kid called Nelson Price - an open and shut case, but Winter isn't convinced. Why would this woman say she's a suspect and why would she need his help all these years later? Winter and Fernandez head to Hartwood in Upstate New York to dig into the six-year-old murder, hoping to find answers. However, the deeper they dig, the more apparent it becomes that nothing is as it first appears.
