You just THOUGHT it was the perfect neighborhood...
Secrets lurk in any neighborhood, but some are more destructive than others. A simple accident can turn neighbor against neighbor, and make you question everything you thought you knew about the people you trusted. When Esme's husband accidentally backs over a neighbor, killing him, there are questions. The police charge him with second-degree murder, and as the trial gets set to begin, the skeletons come tumbling out of the closet. But which ones are going to cause the most damage?
A great read! I loved the book from start to finish!
Superb Sophomore Outing. In Amber Cowie's much anticipated sophomore effort following her debut, Rapid Falls, nearly one year ago, she becomes even more ambitious - and gives the reader even more value for their money. The overall story here is perhaps a slight slump from her stunning debut, and yet even that speaks to how amazing her debut truly was, as this is a truly strong book in its own right and has explosive revelations very nearly as deep as that one did. But what makes this book truly stand out is the novella effectively buried within it - and which would be classified in an entirely different genre of its own. Readers of my other reviews will know that I often proclaim Jeremy Robinson the Modern Day Master of Science Fiction and I have my reasons for doing that. The novella Cowie embedded within this book? It alone could give Robinson a run for his money, and if expanded into a book of its own could be one of the most compelling science fiction thrillers of whatever year it is released. Truly amazing work, and very much recommended.
I really enjoyed Rapid Falls so was very excited to be approved for Raven Lane, I wasn't disappointed either! I find myself drawn to a good suspense novel and this is one of the better ones for this year. If you like slow-burn domestic suspense, where no one is quite what they seem, you'll love Raven Lane. I raced through this book in just a few days, because I was so curious to find out everyone's secrets! I loved the multi layers of the characters and the unorthodox ending is very unexpected. If you have money to spend on books I would recommend adding this to your list. Esme, her husband Benedict & their daughter Zoe live in a close-knit neighborhood where nothing stays private. Benedict's car hit their neighbor who was riding by on a bicycle as Benedict was backing out of the driveway. Torn's bicycle was twisted beneath Benedict's back tire. I will not say more about the story because I think you have to peel this one back like an onion without the tears this was great.
