A Space Ranger tracks a thief who crashed her plane in her escape only to save her.
Space Ranger Natalie Reynolds is hailed to take the report of some stolen gas for a plane when a dangerous meteor storm hits the area she is in. The thief, Catherine Porter, gets caught in the storm and crash lands on a frozen planet and an SOS is sent out by the plane. Reynolds realizing it is the mystery thief sets out to rescue her. The attraction Reynolds feels for Porter is undeniable, but Porter sets her “straight” (laugh) pun intended - she is not that kind of girl. Yet, Porter cannot deny she does not want to leave Reynolds side. The rescue turns into a vacation for Reynolds and more time with Porter until eventually even Porter cannot deny the attraction. The unanswered question as to why Porter stole the gas gets answered, but it leads to more questions and a trip to Porter's aunt's home planet when danger once again finds Porter and Reynolds.
I have to admit that I have never read a “science fiction” book and I was not sure what to expect and this was a lot of fun. K.C. Luck does not make the science fiction so complicated in Rescue Her Heart that a non-science-geek cannot follow along. I love the character of “Nat”, probably because I could identify with almost every thought she had to include the concern regarding the age difference between Catherine and her. Luck creates a strong partner for Nat in Catherine which is necessary when writing for a military character. There are twists and turns in the story as any good adventure has and they all make sense and with one of them, I can already see the next book (hopefully, laugh). The sex is R-rated, but it is the usual sex scene you find in the romances. I do like the emotional connection throughout the sex scenes which is something I usually do not write about but it really works here. I look forward to reading more...even science fiction, well at least if Luck is writing it (laugh).
Note: This was Luck's debut novel, but I read the anniversary edition which had been updated.
