A fictional New Zealand SAS story from a New Zealand Author. The synopsis explains the plot as far as it can without spoilers.
A little over the top with the physical abilities of the main character, but generally the martial arts, the SAS processes, the Borneo jungle and the native people all seem legitimately realistic, albeit in a fictionalised story. The weaponry used is protoype, and although it is fantastical is not too so far fetched as to ruin the story.
There is pace throughout the book, and the suspense builds well, the story plays out with the loose ends tied up. It is not too sentimental, not too fixated on the physical attributes of warfare, and not over romantic about the relationship that plays out through the book.
Overall, very readable. Different from your Andy McNab & Chris Ryan (fiction), which gets really carried away from reality, and has a bit of New Zealand-ism in the story.
3.5 stars.
