Spooky, gross, creepy, clever, melancholic, feminist, exquisitely well-written. Single-handledly restored my faith in my ability to love short story collections.
Hats off to the Greek mythology references, Medusa, Maenads remix, maybe a little Eleusinian mysteries.
I know Armfield's novel Our Wives Under the Sea is getting a lot of positive attention, but I'm hesitant to sign up to be in any of the moods she so skillfully provokes for more than a 20-page stretch. Here's hoping for another short story collection from this author!
