Senator David Cummings is a revered senior statesman who has sent many blessings back to his home state. District Attorney Amy McGuire owes her career in large part to Cummings's patronage. But when a teenage girl is brutally murdered and suspicion falls upon Amy's irresponsible younger brother, Richie, the senator has his own reasons for seeing that Richie is convicted of the crime.
