Harriet Johnson has been ill for ages, her doctor has prescribed ice skating as a strengthening exercise. Her brothers scrape together money to join the local ice rink where she meets Lalla, who has been skating since before she could walk. The two girls become fast friends as Lalla teaches Harriet about the world of ice skating.
