Sunbringer is a thrilling second installment in the Fallen Gods series, where the stakes are higher and the characters are forced to grow and challenge their beliefs to fight for a future they believe in. As is often the case with second books in a series, I enjoyed this one more since I was already familiar with most of the characters and rooting for them from the very beginning.
Although I usually dislike books that separate characters and bounce the reader around between them, I didn't mind it at all in this book. I was equally interested in how all of them were doing, and each had a meaningful role to play in the events that unfolded.
The characters felt real and complex, with their own motivations and flaws, and I devoured every bit of politics they engaged in. I couldn't put the book down, and the last hundred or so pages were so fast-paced and intriguing that I had to consciously slow down to avoid skipping lines or entire paragraphs in my excitement. I would happily offer my first-born for the third book in this series.
