I appreciate the charming images and the insights into rural life of over a century in the past (Potter herself had a farm), but it comes with the occasional brutal honesty of the relationship between predator and prey, and between domesticat
ed animals and humans raising them for food. Fellow vegans beware! This collection offers insights the individual books don't: failing eye sight vs earlier exquisite art, which tales Potter favoured.
I think my favourite tale is Johnny Town-Mouse. Also happens to be one of the stories which demonstrates the dichotomy of some of the animals wearing clothes sometimes and sometimes not. I feel like society could learn something from this. 😉
