Okayy so as soon as I started reading this I noticed that it had a very weird writing style, there were no dialogues!! And it was so confusing at times. But I was ready to ignore that if the plot was good.
Spoiler: it wasn't
Most of the reviews I read talked about a plot twist so I was looking forward to that, but the twist was so mehh, it was predictable, disappointing, and the way it had been portrayed left a really bad taste in my mouth.
While reading there were so many red flags that I ignored and I regret doing so ...but I really wanted to see what that ‘TWIST' was.
Some of the red flags were; 1)ofc the writing style which I mentioned before.
2) CHILD ABUSE (this is where I draw the line)
3)The characters were so unlikeable!! Normally Idc about the characters because I read it mostly for the plot and the twists but these characters were just downright insane!!!!!
I know that this is a work of fiction but the way the author had portrayed child abuse was too much for me to ignore. And the fact that this happens irl to kids makes it that much more terrifying how can people be so inhuman?
Also, I saw this review “With friends like this who needs enemies?” and I couldn't agree more. If I say more on that it would spoil the book so ill stop here
Days after reading this and multiple attempts after trying to reread the last few chapters and I am still so freaking confused by the ending. It just made me go wtff coz I was so confused. I hate when a book doesn't end well, at least if there were a sequel to it, it would be acceptable but there isn't one for this so idk.
I normally don't give low ratings to books coz writing a book and publishing it, isn't an easy task but this book just made me feel so sick that if I could just wipe out my memory of it, I would!
You might be wondering after all that why did I give it a 2.5? well here are the reasons
1. The setting was perfect!! In Sweden in the middle of nowhere surrounded by forests and lakes I just loved the setting.
2. The various Swedish references throughout the book
3. Last but not least Connor, the only redeemable character from the entire book.
