I liked the idea of this story more than the actual story.
The magic fell short for me, as I didn't understand the point of people glowing. It didn't accomplish anything. Therefore, it was hard for me to comprehend why that would create such deep rifts between a pair of families who had potential to be great friends.
Win intrigued me from the beginning. I liked his character overall.
The mysterious atmosphere was fantastic throughout... until the big reveal. Then it became anticlimactic for me.
I appreciated that the characters came from diverse backgrounds and seemed realistic.
There were too many sexual overtones through this entire book, and there was an explicit sex scene. This was really disappointing, because it was unnecessary to the plot and added nothing but sin to the story, as it was sexual relations between an unmarried couple.
Triggers: depression, self-harm (cutting), suicide, abortion
Content: alcohol, expletives, many mentions of people sleeping together outside of marriage, profanity, suicide, abortion, teen pregnancy, nudity, sex scene, sexual innuendo (heavy)
