This book was a good read. I would say it is along the same likes as the novel “Ship Breaker”. It is meant for a younger audience and it features a protagonist who must learn about how he fits into the world. I really liked the setting of this novel. When one thinks of a dystopian novel, one may think of a city in the United States, but I think that the setting in Mexico automatically bumps it up a few notches for me.
As for why I gave it three stars...well...while it was good, very good, I just don't think I'll read it again. I classify a book that is four stars a book that I will read over and over again, and this just wasn't it. If I were younger, say in middle school or early high school, I would have eaten this up. However, as someone in college, I am just a little beyond this book. I still recommend it, though. It was a very interesting read that helped me to learn more about the ideas of cloning without it getting too preachy. It has a mian character who I felt sympathetic with and who slowly began to discover about the world around him, and how some people are both better and not as good as he thought they were. I think that if you are, or know someone who is, of the age group I described, they will enjoy this novel. It is a book that will keep them reading well into the night.
