Parish takes an interesting approach in this short story. He focuses on the story of one of seven friends, flashing back to the past and returning to the present. It is not a story of a nice person, but illustrates grace and how it is influenced by our choices. Or perhaps how our view and understanding of grace is influenced by our choices. I could see a series of short stories focusing in each of the seven characters, showing how each one made different choices and why. There is more to the story, but I won't spoil it all.
This story isn't for everyone as there are instances of graphic violence. That being said, the message of the story does shine brightly in the darkness. I will come back to this one again.
