The Ocean at the End of the Lane

I read it on a plane flight to China, after having asked a friend for recommendations, afraid I was going to die of boredom if I didn't have good enough books. That said, it kept me going for a very good part of the 24 hours. The ending was too far fetched for me (I know, I know), but still adorable enough to me mythologically acceptable.
