After three novels, Barbara Claypole White has established herself as a unique voice in popular fiction featuring characters who are living with disabilities, illness and other major challenges. The Perfect Son is a bittersweet story about a father and son finding their way to each other after the wife/mother who completely managed their lives is stricken with a serious heart ailment. I laughed, I definitely cried, and I wanted to find out everything that happened between the last chapter and the epilogue set five years later. I guess that means the characters made a strong impression on me. White's books aren't the easiest to read because they deal with some of life's starkest realities, but they are always rewarding.
