If you've always wanted to read a romance starring Edith and Woodrow Wilson, then here you go.
I just finished The President's Wife by Tracey Enerson Wood and here is my review.
Socialite Edith Bolling is a smart and lovely widow. She is using her widowhood to live the kind of life she loves. Spending time with her friends and traveling. When she attracts the attention of President Woodrow Wilson, she doesn't dare hope for more but as luck would have it, they marry and she becomes the first lady. Doing as she is told is difficult for an independent woman like Edith.
Knowing her husband relies on her council, she finds a way to make her position useful to her husband and is something she can enjoy. When Woodrow's health takes a turn for the worse, it's up to Edith to keep her husband's office and reputation going.
Edith is the kind of woman who would do anything and sacrifice it all for her husband and her Country.
I had no idea that Edith was even a real person and that this book was largely based on things that actually happened... Yep...

I don't know much about president Wilson but did he really love bomb Edith like the book portrays? Some of the dialogue was a bit weird too and I don't know how some of the things he said to her didn't make her cringe. The book is very well researched and the writing is well done. I know historical fiction tends to be slow paced but this one felt like not a lot happened after 100 pages but I was entertained so I overlooked that.
I did really enjoy the book and I love books that make me research after. If you like historical fiction about spouses this is a good one for the collection.
