Superstition and black magic played too significant of roles for my taste, but the writing was very well done with wonderful expression of thought, fabulous immersion into the setting and era, intriguing characters, and surprises along the brief journey. This author packed a lot into only twenty-four pages, which takes huge talent. I would have liked a happier ending, but after reading the author's note, I understood her choice of finale much better.
