Take troops who have experienced wounds both physical and mental - or who have made mistakes that they acknowledge and don't intend to ever make those same mistakes again. Form a team out of them, a survey team to give them useful roles as they remain in President Hammer's military. They are sent to ascertain if negotiations for a contract to deal with crime syndicates who specialize in gage (a recreational drug) - either by working with one of them to the dismay of the other or deciding to forego the contract. The syndicates are led by greedy, backstabbing scum who murder at will and their underlings are composed of low level, trigger happy thugs, none of them really don't realize with whom they are dealing. They are about to find out...the hard way. Another outstanding book by Master Author, David Drake.
