Not really what I expected. This is more of a mystery with a phantom ex machina. Feels like it was written to eventually be made into a movie, and it's totally riding the coattails of the found footage horror genre. And some parts of the book (the code bits) get a bit tedious, honestly. As though the author really wants you to know how intelligent and clever he is (and he is, but I prefer to gain that knowledge by more subtle means). And Naimh is so manic pixie, I'm over it.
That said, mostly, this was a decent book. I would freak out if Mr Cantero couldn't write. But the honest truth is, he's good. Yes, it sounds pretentious, and it's a little meta because the narrator gets made fun of for how he writes, and it's all a little too clever for me. But I would have hated this book if the writer sucked. But it was all right.
