“That sounds suspiciously like a plan.”“No, it sounds like a steaming hot mess. We'll see if it improves.”
I have a lot of love for this one. It's gritty and sarcastic, and the protagonist is a woman, a professional thief, who works hard to stay unremarkable and unnoticed to stay alive. It works until a friend is slaughtered and, wanting revenge, she gets tangled up in some messy business involving gods and demons, a mage, and The Blade That Whispers Hatred. Just to mention a few.
The narrative voice is... a bit abrupt, with many short sentences. It felt a bit unnatural, but I suppose it's part of the whole Professional Thief Who Doesn't Let Emotions Guide Me package. It took me a while to feel comfortable in it, but that's just me. It didn't keep me from being thoroughly entertained by Amra Thetys' journey.
The epilogue sealed the deal for me. I shall pick up the next book in the series in the near future for sure!
