a book we chose for Book Club. I liked the setting- incredible time in history that I've never heard of, but as suspected, the ending was a bit too nice and pat. If you like flowery language you'll enjoy this- but that was one of the complaints mentioned in our discussion.
Beautifully written and a slice of a fascinating, forgotten piece of history. The characters were interesting and well drawn but so much time was spent on their backstories that we don't get to see them interact with each other much. As a love story it doesn't quite work; we can see that both Ingersoll and Dixie Clay are lonely, but it's hard to believe they fall in love so quickly after only a few meetings.
