While I may have been confused in the middle, the final third of this book makes up for everything. It is... fantastic. I honestly have no words to describe it- it was that good. And I don't generally like contemporaries, even if this was more of a mystery, so that shocked me. It shocked me. In more ways than one.
First off- if you want a good example of an unreliable narrator, here is your book. It's told in the first-person, and the character(s) lie to the reader. Which can be tremendously frustrating but also keeps the reader on their toes. The story was complex and woven brilliantly. Everything tied together in the end.
The relationships are intoxicating. The friendships are twisted and warped, and at times, made me want to scream. And that was the beauty of it.
The writing itself is undeniably beautiful. It almost feels like poetry, but it's not. I think the best way to describe it is like a ballet. Which, I do believe, was the author's intention, as the story revolves around the tale of some ballerinas. Albeit, some murderous ballerinas.
I loved it. It was engrossing once I had time to read it (my constant struggle). It's a beautiful blend of mystery, tragedy, and morality all rolled into one.
