I'm confused by people who said Morris has an ornate style. Maybe they've never actually encountered a writer who has an ornate style. The style is fine. Standard. The book is enjoyable. I was never bored, and I would like to read the next two in the trilogy. I'll probably buy them eventually.
That being said, the female characters aren't particularly strong. Clover is standard hot and cool. I'm not that into her. She's no Beverly or Leslie from the Rivers of London series. As far as urban fantasy goes, Aaronovitch's series is superior. But this is still a nice read with some nice horror elements. I'll be excited to read the next book in both series.
