2.5 starsWELL... that was disappointing. I almost gave up at 70%, but I figured I could muster through the last little bit if I got through most of that heap. There are a few spoilers, consider yourself warned. This was my first Victoria Schwab book, and well... yup, maybe my last? I have no inclination to read the next book in the series, and I really have no inclination to read anymore of her books. It felt really childish, yes there was swearing, yes there was violence, but the MC's both were like children. Technically, one of them is only 4 years old, but whatever. I'll just leave that alone. And the monsters? I expected something... more. There are 3 kinds of monsters, corsai, malchai, and sunai. And there and many of the first 2, but only 3 of the sunai? OKAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY. I thought that was a little strange. Even stranger, the first 2 monsters are somehow enslaved to Kate's father. How did that happen? And you need some sort of medallion to have protection from these monsters? AND her father keeps a record of everyone who has one? WTF, Verity is a city that is comprised of 4 STATES, how is this making sense.... Apparently this was the PG version of [b:A Darker Shade of Magic 22055262 A Darker Shade of Magic (Shades of Magic, #1) V.E.
