OK, so lets put this out there to begin with - this is a book about a cat. It is fair to say, this is probably not the start of me reading books about cats. Let me clarify that the only reason I read this book, is that the author, [a:Ella Maillart 382971 Ella Maillart https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1328987145p2/382971.jpg] is awesome, and I would probably read anything she wrote - evidenced by my reading this!It is a quirky, strange kind of book. Maillart had recently completed one of her travel books, and had decided to live a while in India, and explore ‘enlightenment' - Swami's, Guru's and Saddhu's - her spiritual travel, I think she called it at some point in the book.An acquaintance passed a kitten off to her. It reminded he of her cat at home in Geneva, and so she kept it.The book tells of her travels (with cat) around India - Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Varanasi all feature strongly.Would I recommend it? Probably only for a crazy old cat lady. There was some travel in there, but it is fair to say the author was concentrating on her cat, rather than the travel in this book.Quite readable, and despite it not really hitting my interest, probably cracks 3 stars.
