Til Death We Do Part
Til Death We Do Part
Pablo is a hardworking, upstanding police officer, proud of his long marriage and lovely family. Through decades of quiet dedication and single-minded devotion he has achieved the successes one strives for in life, both with his family and career. Close to retirement and to sitting back and enjoying the fruits of a successful career and marriage, a malicious spurious complaint at work should have no material consequences on his life, but it starts a domino effect, and before long he finds himself shockingly dismissed, divorced, without a home, and with a criminal record. This story explores a convoluted tragic journey of divorce, rich with emotion, loss, betrayal, revenge and confusion. Along the way it explores the dynamics of what makes a relationship weak and vulnerable, or strong and resolute. It's not a miserable story, but one of resilience, hope, and true love. It is told with an immense depth of feeling, insight, humour and faith, and there are many truly surprising twists and turns as the story unfolds.

The story is a heart-touching one. I felt so bad for the protagonist of the story. Everything was going well in the life of Pablo, he had a happy family and a good living. If everything is going well sooner or later something bad will happen. Yes, a false accusation on him made the whole world around him shattered into pieces.
Pablo was optimistic and whatever happened he hold his firm dignity and faith, He was such a determined person.
I loved the narration and it was so different. I loved reading it. This book gives us lessons to learn life can change upside down in seconds and we should stay positive and be what we are and never lose ourselves in the sea of distress.
This one is hard to rate. It seems like it's a personal journey for the author and reads a little like a memoir vs. fiction. Reading the author's bio, you can see there are stark similarities between himself and Pablo. So on that level this is harder to rate...
On an emotional level this one hits very hard. We follow Pablo's descent into chaos, first with a complaint at work, then with his wife not trusting him which leads to a divorce. Then he's ultimately left trying to find himself after 30 years of marriage...without a companion.
On one hand, you feel for Pablo as he tries to save his marriage and pour his heart out to his wife. On the other hand, I began to feel like Pablo's behavior was a little controlling and on the manipulative side. It began to feel like this book is just the author's way of bringing people to his side of the story behind the book...but maybe it was meant to be written that way?
On a fiction level, this one was hard to get into. Many parts are long and (for this type of book) too over descriptive and repetitive. The writing did flow well in some parts but in others it dragged, so overall it wasn't easy to read or get lost in. It's also an extremely melancholy and bleak story. I think if there were some happier moments in this one it may have balanced it out better.
