Okay hear me out, I might be sick and twisted but I love a good “I knew her when she was a child” moment. It is just so fucking and this trope was done to perfection. I am not the biggest fan of past and present time lines but I loved it in this book. We get to see the small glimpses of the past and sheer dedication Cal had for these two kids. Switch to the present and we see dedication in a whole new way.
We get MC, age gap, and mom's ex boyfriend. What more could you want?? The love felt between Lexi and Cal is so pure. The way the love morphed into romance was just perfection. This book is heavily focused on character development through dealing and growing through trauma so I sort of wish there was more of a background plot. The characters completely made up for this slight lack.
