I usually love Alice Winters book, but I was so, so bored. The set up is great – some people have little gifts and they have to get registered, but Alex wasn't registered. Great! But, it doesn't mean anything except he can't tell the police when something is wrong. Honestly, what was the point of not registering earlier? We also don't see people with gifts treated different or even learn about them at all. On that note, the world-building is practically nonexistent.
Then the plot, I'm halfway through the book and have no idea what this book is about expect Bishop and Alex are destined to love each other and possibly one of them will kill the other. Oh, and they go around trying to keep people from being killed. Considering there isn't really a build up of the relationship – it honestly goes from hostile to friends in about 3 chapters then dating in the next– I wasn't invested in them at all.
ALSO Alex says he didn't finish high school, so how is he a high school teacher? You're telling me he was able to get his GED, earn the money from college, attend college, AND raise his sister? I know 13 years is a long time and it is doable, but... I would like more of their background I guess??
So, no plot, things don't 100% make sense, and I haven't been convinced to care about these characters. Such a bummer.
