This is an interesting book containing stories about 13 different people of a variety of nationalities, 12 of whom take the same trip on the Orient Express (it leaves Victoria Station in London at 4:30). The book is divided into two parts, the first giving the background of each person, chapter by chapter, the second (10 chapters) describing what happens on the trip as far as Athens and how some of the travellers' paths cross on the trip.

This is quite a dated read. That said, some of the character set-ups (which form about the first 60% of the book) are very nicely done. Many of the concluding chapters were less satisfying for me.
