This is first novel and it felt like one. There is a lot of telling and not showing. I loved the setting of this novel. It started out so great. My problems with the story were the main characters. Tessa is lacking in personality and Will is really unbelievable. Everyone is so passionless. I had a really hard time with the “romance” in this story. Guibord never lets us into the heads of the characters, I still don't understand WHY the characters did the things they did in the story.
Add to the mix two story lines: one from the 1500s and one from now and it just gets even more muddled. Why did Will fall head over heels in love with Tessa after plotting her death for 500 years? The he-hates-her, he-loves-her bit goes on for far too long and I just stopped caring.
So, Warped started off great, bogged down to a stand still in the middle, and kind of picked up in the end.
Also, warning, there is much mention of A Wrinkle in Time (not one of my favorite books) in the story and I can see that Guilbord was attempting to emulate that story. So another reader may find some fun in that. This one was not for me.
