Received an ARC from NetGalley!
This was a fun read. I actually was guessing up until the end of the book of how it would end and all plots tied up together.
This poor woman just had all odds against her. It wasn't her day or week in the beginning of the book. But with random chances, miscommunications, lots of adventure, and two hot guys - her luck turns around.
This was a cute read.I hadn't read [b:To Have and to Hoax 52210045 To Have and to Hoax Martha Waters https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1577153989l/52210045.SX50_SY75.jpg 71426931] so the beginning was a little difficult to follow with all of the characters. There were references to that book so I'd highly recommend you read it first. The premise of the story was great, however I didn't feel like there was a the witty banter I was promised. I wanted to laugh and feel the tension between the two, but it was very muted. I also felt that many scenes dragged on and I skipped a lot of the characters internally babbling. While the two characters had known each other for 6 years - the insta-love was a little quick. The fact that they had sex twice and then realized they loved each other was a little quick.
DNF
I really wanted to try and like this book but I couldn't finish it.
The Female main character was awful. She was shallow and didn't want people in her town to think that she was fucking the dog walker. That's not a heroine we need for 2019.
But what really killed it for me was the the second time they have? sex. It's just pages of cringe worth dialogue of the Veronica spilling her guts, saying she just wants sex, but also being pressured for more than a one night stand.
I received an ARC from Netgalley - review to come
I just finished this! I want the next book right now.
While many of the elements of this book are commonly used - they are used often because they work.
Female sheriff with a past, the first love, murder, mystery This is what I expect from Darynda - A serious topic with a little laughs and always a good love interest.
I really wanted to like this book. Since a young age - I've always had that superhero fantasy - I blame it on all of the comics I read.
But, the writing style of this book totally turned me off. You know when people make fun of Romance novels...for using flowerly language and using as many words to describe the acts of sex without actually using the terms.
I skipped over most of this book with the crazy prose and words like “channel”. I felt that I rolled my eyes more often than not.
I may just not be a fan of the authors writing - but there are still books in the misadventure series that I would like to read.

Werewolves + Cops - can it get any better?
Yes! Add in New Orleans as a workcation.
The story between Remy and Triana is nothing out of the ordinary - friends from high school lose touch, both move away to different cities in Texas and haven't been in contact since high school. Randomly they are both back in New Orleans and Remy re-finds Triana.
Being that they were high school crushes - I missed the beginning flirting stages of a relationship. They re-met, went to dinner and were hooking up.
Otherwise - I liked how Tyler added a little bit more about her werewolf lore and I can't wait to find out what happens next.
