I requested this book because I love cosy mysteries almost as much as I love cheese so it was a no brainer!
Carly, mourning the loss of her husband, moves back to her home town of Balsam Dell and opens her dream restaurant, Carly's Grilled Cheese Eatery, she begins to get a roaring trade and is happy to increase the business and settle back into the town.
Unfortunately Carly's former beau decides he wants her out of the building he now owns and she has to find a way to stay put while dealing with his shenanigans until she finds his dead body behind the shop and one of her employees is suspected in his death.
I loved Carly as the main protaganist and wanted to eat all the sandwiches that were made! There's a good core group of characters, loved the humour and the interplay between them all.
I look forward to reading more in this series to see how Carly develops, how the relationships build and all the recipes that are sure to follow.
Huge thanks to Linda Reilly, Poisoned Pen Press and NetGalley for this copy which I chose to read and all opinions are my own
On the coast of Cornwell there is an island, cut off from the mainland by a causeway which cannot be traversed on foot when the tide is in. The house atop the island is called Seaglass and is the home of Beatrice Darker, the matriarch of the Darker family, who has asked her family to gather together for her 80th birthday.
Father Frank, mother Nancy, their 3 daughters, Rose, Lily and Daisy and Trixie, Lily's daughter arrive on the 30th October to begin the celebration, it doesn't start well for them and just gets worse from there.
The setting is wonderful, I could almost feel the cold air and hear the torrential rain outside. The claustrophobic, tense and isolated atmosphere was well done especially with people dropping like flies! I loved some of the characters and hated others and you will see why once you get pulled into this story.
All backstory and needed information was placed extremely well so the story flowed cohesively to the wonderful ending.
I flew through it in one sitting an absolutely LOVE Poppins.
Huge thanks to Alice Feeney, Pan Macmillan and NetGalley for this copy which I chose to read and all opinions are my own
Found out about this book in the Books Of Horror Facebook group and knew I had to give it a go.
Teenagers, revenge, blood and creepiness (plus a corn maze) all add up too a steady build that leaves you unsettled and waiting for more until the final few pages.
Read in one sitting and will definitely be on the look out for more by this author!
