There was a lot of jumping around which makes me confused if i dont type notes but this book was very well done. The acolytes were interesting and i really like zachary's character as a whole. Im so glad i took another stab at this one. I cant wait to read the night circus now. I really like morgenstern's word building and imagery and symbolism throughout this one.
I was really annoyed with the emphasis heavily throughout the book with S.P.E.W. overall I loved the Quidditch World cup, the whole triwizard gambit. I drew to the conclusion that Voldemort is far scarier in the book than in the movies. I love sirius even more and Snape is quite a @$$ to Harry...overall so happy i finally got through this one. This was my first go through the entire book. Onward!
This was really good and pulled me in as soon as the duel began but before that I was just moving along. The twist was amazing and I loved everything about the video game world. I really enjoyed the overall of this book but it was a slow pace at first, I'm giving this a 4 star because the overall of this book was everything I love in a book, the message, the embracing of being yourself, the build, etc.
I love that a female IS the developer too. Just makes me so excited a further example for young girls.
This has been the most informative non-fiction read I've read in a while. The timeline that takes place within this book is large range and descriptive. I definitely enjoyed Dr. Mary L. Trumps book and really putting herself out there not only as a family member of the trump family but her professional viewpoints in her Clinical Psychology role. She brings up events that occurred throughout a large range of time and explains she has gone through with her brother. I do not sway left or right when it comes to politics and I was a bit leery on reading this one, but it really gives you a glimpse of what its like to be an outsider within a powerful family. I honestly felt for her throughout this book on how she was treated as a woman and within the family. Just goes to show that family issues can run deep and that sometimes you are not alone in that struggle. Very well done Dr. Trump.
The absolute full package on any sci fi book i've read in the last 2+ years. Hands down 5 stars. Holy crud was the length of this book humungous like 880 pages humungous the audio book I read along with was over 30 hours long o.O i thought the midnight sun was a beast but this one was engaging the full way through. I loved kira and gregorivich (I have a soft spot for AI's lol). It definitely felt like 3 books built into 1 but over all I loved the war with the alien race, the evolvement of kira as a character and the over all whole package of this book. I loved it so much I went out and bought. I wish I could have gotten a signed copy of it but its okay, I don't own a single book that is signed already but one day.
I need to update this because after absorbing this book and the contents of this read I can genuinely say what I want to say about this one. I am rating this a 2 star review. I hated how much emphasis on the sexual interactions was within this book. I was pretty infuriated throughout when the main male CEO of the startup was this womanizer and coming off as this high and all mighty ego prick. I have a startup of my own. I've been many accelerators and incubators and have interacted with all walks whether they are east coast, west coast, and midwest/belt located startups and I can assure you that its not THAT toxic of an environment. Yes the portrayal of getting beta, and the hustle and flow of getting funded and the stress a CEO experiences to kick off running and be profitable, beautifully spot on. But this book was disgusting over emphasized on the sexual interactions and inappropriate work place harassment of many of the characters. I know this is just a fiction book but these stereotypes upset many of those of us taking the risk of throwing all they got into their vision and companies...I've never read anything Shafrir and I will say the flow of the story was good, I just didn't like the characters and how the women came off as throwing themselves to have sex with these big name CEOs and being weak within the confines of workplace harassment. I know this has happened to many women in tech including big name startups like Uber and Twitter but an everyday startup is more focused on getting kicked off than all this other nonsense. I wish there was more emphasis on pitching to investors, and how the engineers and marketers work instead of this scandal focus on who the CEO is sleeping with... I will say when this first started it really described the rush of competing and being a part of a startup but then this other element of unnecessary proportions unraveled and I just was more disgusted than anything.
Really enjoy this book. each time I get bored or want to keep tweaking and improving my problem solving skills, this book is what I turn to. There are questions within the book as well that can couple well with leetcode or hackerrank. Definitely recommend for software engineers whether you are full stack, back-end or front end developers.
Really had high expectations of this one and it definitely didn't disappoint. Really enjoyed this and the illustrations were beautifully done. The story overall was amazing and can't wait to pick back up the Netflix tv series now that I completed this. definitely a 5 star review. Really hit home for my fantasy interest.
I didn't get a chance to write a review till now but I gave this one a hands down 5 star review. I appreciated his look and his glance into the oval office and being transparent about his experiences during his term. It was very interesting to see the events unravel and catch a glimpse of that. I know he can't disclose everything but it was nice to get a clear perspective of walking in his shoes during this one.
Where do I even begin....o.O This was the hardest most fulfilling book i've read in 2020 so far hands down. Wow...The domestic violence and the grooming of these young girls not only made me sick to my stomach and cry on numerous parts but Lei's character made me shout out several times yeah you badass get it! I was rooting for Lei the entirety of this book and wren has got to be amongst the highest of my favorites. They are THE perfect duo and I loved both of them. Aoaki was my next in line of favorites when it came to the characters but I shook my head on how much she was brainwashed and gaslighted by her situation...I loved the progression of this story, I am so anxious to pick up the second one now in this series and the fact there is a 3rd installment in 2021 coming o.O!!!?!?!?! yessssssss! overall what a hard read but amazing overall story. So glad I binged this one! Everything moved at a pretty good pace, I was never bored with the details and just ugh definitely recommend!
I loved the mermaids, the world building, the pirates, the magic system, the pirate ships and travel of adventure.
BUT
I did not care for the protagonist Amora..I dunno if it was the character development feeling forced or rushed I dunno exactly what it was but I just didn't care much for her. Now the side character Bastian hell yes I want more LOL.
I got extremely bored with the second half of the book, i was so confused on why the fleeing maybe I missed something I dunno but I just wish there was more to the plot and a different element to the protagonist.
But the world building alone was what kept me going because I wanted to learn more about the environment than caring about the main character grimace face the dark magic or evil magic was interesting but I want more of that lol. and why on most YA fantasies is there a love/romance thing going on or maybe I interpreted that incorrectly and it really wasn't a love/romancey thing going on...I want the epic journey, the world building, the incredible magic system. I am still going to read the second in this series and I will definitely re-read this one because I had to of missed something while listening on audio book.
The narrator was good which helped me along the book. Overall I'd say 3 maybe 3.5 stars but definitely not a 4.
Ugh this is probably going to be an unpopular opinion but I did not like this book. I stopped reading this about 50% of the way in and don't plan to pick it up again. I stopped reading and picked back up because I got distracted during my book clubs month (august 2020) of picking this book but I can officially lay this one to rest. I just realize these contemporary style books are just not my thing and that is okay. Though I did not like this one, I still would recommend someone to read this if you are into a suburbia style standalone books with stereotypical neighbors/characters with life obstacles.
Though Celeste Ng was spot on with how the shaker heights area is because I am near Cleveland/shaker heights area I just was bored from the very beginning of this book. I live within it so I personally don't want to read about it when I live within it on a daily basis. grimace face I just know now this book was not for me since I am gravitated towards sci-fi and fantasy style books, I figured I would give it a try because I saw the TV series. I'd be curious on the TV series but I have a feeling its not going to be for me either.
What a magical, charming incredible read. Read this for the winternight read-a-long that I'm doing and I loved this book so much. Vasya is a perfect female protagonist that grew so much within this book I loved everything about her character. I loved the magic/fantasy element of it. the environments/worlds. just ugh soooo good. Can't wait to read #2 and #3 of this trilogy :) Definitely recommend for a magical fall/winter read :)
I liked the coloring and illustration very well done. I went in not knowing anything about this comic/graphic novel I must have mistakened it for Captain Marvel like the movie but I loved the difference. This one highlighted a pakistani girl name kamala and possessing super powers involving her hands to fight evil. Love a good graphic novel/comic that highlights other cultures. I got this through my libraries libby app so I'll have to look into see if there is more than 1 volume. would love to read more in the future.
I'm not sure if the format that I had through the libby app glitched or what but I was expecting since it was categorized on the libby app as a comic/graphic novel that it would be setup as such. It pretty much followed the same script as the movie, no uniqueness, no extra storyline nothing. On top of that there was no ending to my copy. I scanned the QRC and it goes to a blank page. Pretty disappointed as I was really excited at the potential of a graphic novel/comic of the tron story but instead we get no finished book and pictures copied and pasted from the movie.
I've seen the movie but shockingly never picked up the book. The illustrations and coloring are absolutely gorgeous and amazing. I had gotten this through the libby app and I have to say some of the text was very tiny, thankfully I could increase the magnification so i could read it. I'm unsure if this is the case in the printed copy but the version i had was a bit too small. I loved it. Hands down was great and was exactly what I imagined his work to be.
