I enjoyed the book. Turns out I read it out of order since this is the second in the series but I didn't feel like I missed out by not reading the first book, this story is definitely self contained. I'm not a huge fan of the ending in that the men did all the explaining of what happened as if it was all their doing when the Queen and Rozie made the actual discoveries.
I get easily annoyed at characters that are both self-destructive and self-centered so I did not really enjoy the book but it didn't get so bad that I needed to stop reading. I was happy with the character growth and where things ended up for her but for my own subjective reason it's not something I would recommend. I do, however, like the author's story telling so I would still read another book by them.
This is the third book I've read by Liselle Sambury and it drew me in within the first few pages once again. I normally don't read books very quickly but I was barely able to put the book down, wanting to know what exactly happened to the different characters and why they were the way they were. Even if I had theories I couldn't wait to read whether or not I was correct and how it all went down. The characters and their relationships made me invested in what would happen to them and what had happened to them in the past. Very much looking forward to the next one.
This was a super interesting concept. It was at times difficult for me to follow where we were in the story because it goes back and forth in time but I'm not sure it would have had the same impact if the author wrote it all chronologically because it all ties together nicely. I enjoyed it and have already recommended it to people.
I could not put this book down. The story is so much more complex than I had ever anticipated and kept me wanting to find out more. It's not just a teenage witch trying to pass her test, that's only one thread of the spiderweb. I may be a bit bias because Toronto is my hometown and so really enjoyed following the characters through my city, but the writing is so easy to read because it flows so well, and the characters are so relatable that I couldn't help but get invested in them. If you're into scifi, fantasy, or just want to read a book with great representation of all types of individuals here's the book for you. I highly recommend Blood Like Magic and can't wait to read more of Liselle Sambury's work.
I think everyone should read this book. It puts racial issues into a very digestible format that helps the reader self evaluate their past and current thoughts. It also is very helpful in guiding the reader how to move forward and be better. I'm very happy I've read it and am sure to read it again and again to remind myself of how I need to help change.
I very much enjoyed this book. The story is told from the point of view of multiple characters, which adds an insight into their relationships and actions that really gets you connected to them. What I especially liked was that it flowed so well I didn't feel like it was disjuncted when going from one character's view to the next. What was happening story-wise was engaging and I found I couldn't stop reading, I kept wanting to know what would happen next and when I had questions I would keep reading so I would find the answers (which I did). Highly recommend it and hope the author writes more.
I love the Wizard of Oz series. Every story is so imaginative and fun you can't help yourself but be in the fairyland yourself. I will read them again and again. They are not just for kids but any youthful spirits who want to immerse themselves somewhere new and interesting even if they've been there before. Pure delight.
There was a side theme that the outcome I did not see coming. As with the first two, i really enjoyed reading through this book. Found it a fast read and kept you guessing. I think the characters are relatable and she puts together the story arc well. Over all, I still continue to recommend her. Looking forward to reading more Gamache stories.
I'm really enjoying this series and how little breadcrumbs are left throughout it of an underlying second story. At first, I thought this was a simplistic style but she's interwoven a complexity that gets clearer as you continue to read. Still recommend. Easy reads and keeps you interested for the next book.
I really enjoy Gamache and Beauvoir as characters, and their relationship with each other is so heart warming. I'm looking forward to reading her next book. All the characters are endearing, except Nichols but I think that's the point. Interested to see if she is a returning character. The story itself is good and an easy read, something I would definitely recommend.
I could basically sum this book up with the sound “meh”. I would never tell someone they shouldn't read it because it was fine. I personally was distracted by the spelling and grammar mistakes throughout the book, but even without that I wouldn't necessarily say that the writing was great. It wouldn't stop me from reading another book by this author. It's an interesting enough story, tying things together and I never felt the need to stop reading it.
This isn't the usual type of book I read but I very much enjoyed it. I was expecting it to be like a text book but found how he wrote and presented concepts was interesting and kept me engaged. I am a marketer though, so may want to take it with a grain of salt since it really hit a cord with my interests.
I really enjoyed this book. I found I connected with the characters from the start and so was interested in their day to day lives. I can understand why someone might find it boring, I think it really depends on that connection with the characters, kind of like how you wouldn't be bored to listen to your dear friend talk about their day but you would if they were a complete stranger. I would prefer to see more of what happens to Eilis and her feelings past when the book ends, that's really my only complaint. I recommend it but think that if you don't find yourself invested in the characters near the beginning then it may not be for you.
This book is fine. Reading it created no strong feelings in me, the story was good though one part was a bit too jarring, not in visuals, but in feeling that something happened too suddenly that I thought I had missed something. My reaction to it is that I wouldn't necessarily recommend it but I wouldn't tell someone not to read it.
