The world is part of a different series and they intersect but even if it might benefit to read the other first I didn't feel too lost even if I didn't finish the other one.
- A modern day world with a caveat, near the city our story is happening in there is a large city only for supernatural creatures that normal humans know nothing about (like no one ever saw a map). Various species are talked about but the main ones are vampires and the hunters of this secret organization that hunt them.
- This first book is mostly about the initial meeting and relationship between the main characters but it has some plot that was interesting and I look forward to reading about. It also initiates a different plot that is coming slightly from the previous series and unfortunately I didn't find as interesting but seems will be a major plot for the next book.
- Our FMC is a badass and we get some time and good examples of this which was very much appreciated. She's going through some major life changes and we see her fighting the realization that her worldview might not be fully correct and that felt realistic.
- When it comes to MMC we get some time with him but in the end since we are only seeing things from the female lead's perspective there is a lot of doubts and going back and forth on how we do see him. This for me felt a little detrimental because I finished the book feeling like we didn't really know him, even if he was sweet and genuine I felt it lacked something.
- The ending had some good plot twists that had been somehow hinted at during the book but never really had time to fully reveal themselves so they still caught me by surprise.
I will continue on but with some caution since my particular experiences with this author are mostly just ok.
