Not sure I fully understood the story...

At least I got the tittle.

Originally I listened to LeVar Burton read one of the short stories the titular one Jackalope Wives). Re-read the titular story and the collection as a whole (thanks Hoopla).

It's fantastic. Kingfisher is a treasure. Her writing is masterful.

Immediately started Nettle and Bone.

Good humor and good tone shifts.

Ending was lackluster/sudden

Listened to LeVar Burton read Childfinder. Synopsis from LeVar a Burton reads: A telepath uses her skills to mentor children with psionic ability.

Synopsis from LeVar Burton Reads:“A grandmother teaches her family to deal with difficult memories in a unique way – by pickling them in jars.”

A little surreal.

Listened to LeVar Burton read ‘The Second Bakery Attack'.

The mermaid was well done, however the teens were boring and unbelievable.

You find a mermaid and you converse about working as a bagger?

Fascinating premise. The main character had an interesting, but clumsy emotional arc.

Reminded me of a Blackmirror episode

Love the premise and execution. However, I found the ending abrupt and overly simple.

It's anthology, so it's a mix. Some of this I found to be hilarious, but some parts I found to be more mean, repetitive, or otherwise unfunny.

This book offers a rich overview of New York at the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Made me think of other stories with a less than exciting protagonist, such as Stranger Than Fiction an Secret Life of Walter Mitty. However, there's no real change. The protagonist doesn't do much.

Listened to LeVar Burton read this. He compares this story to a Twilight Zone episode and I agree with him. This story was good and it was so close to a GREAT story however it feels like a flirt with danger, a near miss, rather than a full tale. I guess it was too subtle for my tastes, I kept waiting for the floor to drop out, but all we get are hints of what could have happened.

Listened to this via LeVar Burton and enjoyed it again.

The ads for the tech in the story were 5star - phenomenal.

I have read this before somewhere else, if I had to guess I believe this was embedded in on of my fairy tale collections...I wanna say [b:The Complete Fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimm 7292417 The Complete Fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimm Jack D. Zipes https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1267380765l/7292417.SY75.jpg 50400471].

I laughed, so it wasn't all bad, lol.

Lovely art and wonderful fairy tale flair.

‘Let those who would be fooled, be fooled.'

3.5 rating; Read by LeVar Burton. Undecided on how to interpret the ending, was it true, or more fake news/trickery?

Imperfect, but good to be exposed to different perspectives.

Didn't realize I had already read this, but it was still funny

Loved Yeardley Smith as Mable.
