Not fair to give it a star rating as I only managed 25 pages. I liked this as a movie and I know the guy is supposed to be a big headed annoying idiot who is wrecking his life but for me it's not enjoy able in book form. 25 pages was all it took for me to realise I would be spending the whole time yelling for him to grow up for the rest of book and I'm not going to waste my time doing that!
This is a really difficult one for me to rate. This book is very well written and it has a really intricate story but it's just not for me at all. Weirdly I do think it would make and amazing movie and I think I'd prefer it in that format.
If you like things heavy on politics and war and everything that comes with it you'll enjoy this book! If you like to have at least a sprinkling of lightness in your books then, like me, you won't be a fan of this.
This is longer than some of Nora's other books and very much could have been wrapped up quicker but I'm pleased it wasn't. The story taking its time means we get to watch the characters grow up. We're with them in joy and in sadness (parts had me in tears) and this book really has it all with lovely slice of life moments, romance and murder mystery. This is a Nora Roberts book so obviously it's polished and well written.
Highly recommend for an easy read and the perfect escape from reality.
I thought I would absolutely love this book as I'm very much the target audience and it's a genre I absolutely love. Unfortunately it's full of woefully underdeveloped characters and a main character who is completely insufferable for a lot of the book.
I came back to edit this review and lower the star rating because a week later I'm actually still mad at how bad this book was. It's lazy and poorly written.
Such an enjoyable book! As expected Comey brings so much realism and believability to the story and my only complaint is that at times the realism becomes dull when there are paragraphs describing intricacies and facts about buildings.
The good very much out weighs the bad with this book and what you're left with is a well paced story with believable, interesting characters and an engaging plot. It's a great debut novel and I'm really looking forward to reading more of Comey's work. Central Park West feels like reading the first work of a future powerhouse in the crime genre.
